Grading Contractor License Exam Content Outline

A Grading Contractor provides site development services for commercial, industrial and residential projects. They are responsible for surveying the land of a construction site to determine the type of soil, slope of the land, what’s under the soil, and other information to develop a plan for the work. They also must operate heavy equipment to grade the land, which requires a CDL. They must also get necessary licenses and permits to do the work, and ensure the safety of their workers.

There are 40 questions in this examination. You will need to answer 28 questions correctly in order to pass. You are allowed 2 hours to complete this test.

NOTE: All Grading – Commercial Contractor candidates are required to pass the Business Management and Law for Contractors Examination and the Grading Examination.

  1. General Knowledge (15 Items)
  2. Excavating and Grading (20 Items)
  3. Safety – Code of Federal Regulations (5 Items)
